GET HIP TO A NEW HIP Am I too young or too old? Age is not a factor in getting a new hip. Surgeons decide who is a good candidate based on how much pain a person is in and how much a bad hip is limiting someone’s life. Most people who get a new hip are 50 to 80 years old. But people of all ages—even teenagers—have had hip replacement surgery. Source: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons ? Take care of that new hip Congratulations! You have a new hip. If you take care of it and protect it, your new hip should serve you well for a very long time. Don’t cross your legs or ankles while sitting, standing or lying down. Don’t bend too far forward from your waist or pull your leg up past your waist. Try not to sit in the same position for more than 30 to 40 minutes at a time. 4 FALL 2018
